About Me

My name is Lauren Phonxaya.

I am a Graphic Designer born and raised in beautiful San Diego. I graduated from San Diego State University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia/Graphic Design and have been immersed in the field for over 10 years.

My passion lies in helping small businesses and entrepreneurs succeed through effective and creative design. I work diligently to bring each client’s vision to life, ensuring the final product is not only visually stunning but also 100% satisfactory. With my education and extensive experience, you can count on me for efficient communication and quality work.

Throughout my career, I’ve gained valuable experience in sales, customer service, production design, and marketing. I’ve also partnered with local businesses to create promotional materials that drive results. Beyond design, my role as a dance director and instructor has taught me invaluable lessons in leadership, collaboration, and project management—skills I bring to every creative endeavor.

Exhibition Broadside Design (with process)

An exhibition broadside created to convey my personal perspective and interpretation of the Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture exhibition at the San Diego Museum of Art. Through the strategic use of imagery and typographic syntax, this design captures the essence of Kahn’s architectural genius, reflecting the bold simplicity and emotional depth of his work while engaging viewers in a visual dialogue with the exhibition’s themes.

Multi-page Book Design (with process)

A multi-page book exploring the origin, development, patent history, and design of the iconic Chinese takeout box. This project delves into the cultural and functional significance of the object, showcasing detailed illustrations, archival patents, and insightful narratives. With a focus on both form and function, the book celebrates the timeless design and its evolution into a symbol of culinary convenience and tradition.

Non-Traditional Calendar Design

A non-traditional calendar inspired by the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, aligning each month with a step on the journey to recovery. Combining artistic layouts, unconventional typography, and interactive elements, this project transforms a functional tool into a visually engaging experience, blending practicality with creativity.

Type Specimen Book (with process)

A narrative and type specimen book inspired by Don Norman's TED Talk, '3 Ways Good Design Makes You Happy.' This unique project merges typography with the psychology of design, exploring visceral, behavioral, and reflective qualities of good design through curated type specimens and storytelling. The result is an engaging blend of visual and conceptual elements that celebrate the joy and impact of thoughtful design.

Mock City Rebrand

A mock city rebrand for Lemon Grove, featuring vibrant design elements and historical motifs that celebrate the city’s rich heritage and sunny charm. This project blends bold color palettes, playful typography, and iconic imagery to create a cohesive visual identity that reflects the spirit of the community while embracing its bright future.

Nameplate Design (with process)

A custom nameplate and stationery set featuring a geometric theme inspired by the golden rectangle. This design harmonizes precision and elegance, using balanced proportions and clean lines to create a timeless identity that reflects both personal style and aesthetic sophistication.
